Flower of the month: Flowering oregano
This one may come as a surprise, but flowering oregano is a fantastic filler for bouquets.
Perennial in California, it flowers every summer starting in July and going through September. It has tiny, delicate white flowers (some varieties are pink, but the white is what I have growing) and the scent of the leaves adds a nice earthy aroma to any bouquet.
When I started my flower growing journey, I underestimated how many fillers and how much greenery I would need. These two ingredients are the basis of nearly every bouquet!
In the summer, I can depend on flowering oregano as a steady filler. The small flowers help create more of a wild meadow look.
Flowing oregano can also be used to offset a focal show-stopper bloom like a dahlia.
All in all, it’s one of my favorite fillers and I look forward to it blooming every year!
